- Don’t use too much shimmer or light reflecting makeup. Skin and makeup look best with a soft matte finish and yellow based foundations are the most natural.
- Don’t do anything drastic the days before the wedding. Sunburns, burns from waxing, intense facials, and breakouts caused by using to many new products will all make your wedding makeup application a challenge.
- Come to your trial with some ideas about what you like. Pour back over your stacks of bridal mags and look at their faces. Do you like a classic red mouth and a light eye, or a smokey eye and softer lips? Rip out the looks that appeal to you and show them to your artist.
- If you choose to do your own makeup, or you have to, due to wedding location, have a lesson first. A one on one with an artist can be instrumental in teaching you the techniques you need for a perfect application. Bring your mom or maid of honor to your lesson so she can help you the day of your wedding.
- Give some thought to the pace you would like to set in getting ready. Running around to appointments can leave you frazzled. Try to have all of your services come to you and enjoy the process. This is your "red carpet moment".
- Beware of agencies that offer you stylists at different levels and charge much higher fees for their top level artists. Some will send the same people no matter what you are billed.
